The Basics

Kuranda is one of the most popular day-trip destinations from Cairns, where you can browse for handicrafts, didgeridoos, and Aboriginal art, or explore Australian wildlife in the nearby Kuranda National Park and Barron Gorge National Park. Many travelers opt to ride an enclosed gondola on the 4.5-mile (7.5-kilometer) Skyrail Rainforest Cableway from Kuranda to Smithfield. Among Kuranda’s other popular attractions are the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, Kuranda Koala Gardens, the Reforestation Nature Park, and Birdworld Kuranda.

Barron Gorge and Kuranda National Park Half Day Rainforest and Waterfall 4WD Tour from Cairns
It was great to go off the beaten track in a small group. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and we learnt so much on the tour. The highlight for me was the waterfall and the 4WD tracks!

Barron Gorge and Kuranda National Park Half Day Rainforest and Waterfall 4WD Tour from Cairns
Gaining access to some areas of the gorge only possible by 4WD and a knowledgeable tour guide / driver made this half day tour, in retrospect a half day wasn’t enough, it seemed we were always rushed.

Barron Gorge and Kuranda National Park Half Day Rainforest and Waterfall 4WD Tour from Cairns
We did this trip on 19th January. The entire "off the main tourist route "experience exceeded our expectations thanks in a big part to our guide Mick from Discovery Tours. Apart from the rainforest and falls themselves a particular highlight was seeing the fantastic Clohesy River Fig Tree. Greg and Jocelyn, Sunshine Coast.

The guide was so nice and he was the best driver ever! Due to no rain at the time when we went there, the barran fall was not bad but not so powerful. Still the tour itself was great!

Barron Gorge and Kuranda National Park Half Day Rainforest and Waterfall 4WD Tour from Cairns
Interesting day out had a very informative guide who gave us a lot of information regarding all the trees, and was good to be off the beaten path and get in the heart of the rain forest. Would have liked to have gone to butterfly sanctuary which was closed by the time we arrived in the afternoon but still beautiful scenery

Barron Gorge and Kuranda National Park Half Day Rainforest and Waterfall 4WD Tour from Cairns
Had a really cool tour. The tour guide Stevan was friendly and could tell me a lot about the rainforest. Everytime i liked to take picture i could tell him and he stopped the car. He showed me really nice places in the national park and i enjoyed my tour. The Tour was worth it, because it was not that crowded like other tours and the car was new with a good air conditioner also not like in other tours. It was so impressive to see this old trees and got to know the history about the rainforest. My Tour started at 1 pm with a pick up from the hotel, we had a ride with the car and some nice walk stops in the forest, while eating some cookies. Soooo actually that's it, i liked this tour :
