Greenwich Village

14th Street and West of Broadway, New York City, 10012

The Basics

As one of Manhattan’s top destinations, Greenwich Village is a stop on most hop-on hop-off bus tours, which allow visitors to explore at their own pace without the hassle of navigating.

Private tours provide a more intimate experience, allowing guests to tack a stroll through Greenwich Village onto the day’s customized itinerary.

Greenwich Village food tours showcase the area’s array of hidden gems and independent eateries and typically include a selection of food and drink tastings. While daytime tours provide the best views of the High Line, Washington Square Park, and the Hudson River, evening walking tours and ghost tours offer a fresh perspective on the city illuminated under the night sky.

Semi-Private Greenwich Village Walking Tour
This was the first time my 15 year old and I really explored Greenwich Village, and we had a fantastic time with Patrick as our tour guide! We learned so much about the history and culture of the area, and it was fun learning about the famous historical figures that lived/frequented the area. Patrick kept it lively and interesting, and what was impressive was the amount of knowledge he had. No question stumped him! We would definitely recommend this tour.

Ghosts of Greenwich Village: 2-Hour Private Walking Tour
My wife and I as well as our teenage children loved this experience!! Marshall is an outstanding resource in Greenwich Village. She is engaging and kept us all entertained. She was also kind enough to share some knowledge about NYU as we moved by some of its buildings, as my son had some questions about the school. She gave us some great restaurant recommendations near the end of the tour. We truly enjoyed our tour with her! We highly recommend Marshall and this tour!!!

NYC Greenwich Village Italian Food Tour
Greg made us feel like a local. Both our kids (ages 9 and 12) really enjoyed the variety of Italian foods. Even though it was really hot and humid that day, he kept checking in on us and tried as best as he could to keep us in the shade.

High Line Park and Greenwich Village Food Tour
Alex was easy going, knowledgeable and hospitable. We loved his favorite pizza place, I wish we had the Indian Tacos in Atlanta, the sweets and treats were amazing. The tour of the high line was a great intro to the area and I can’t wait to go back in my own. I can’t wait to take another walking/food tour as well!!

When to Get There

There’s no bad time of year to experience Greenwich Village. Washington Square Park is busiest May to September, when street performances, impromptu concerts, and art installations are on full display. Annual events include the Greenwich Village Film Festival and Taste of the Village food festival in October, the Washington Square Music Festival and New York City Pride Parade in June, and the popular Village Halloween Parade.

Bob Dylan’s Village

Greenwich Village was not always an upscale neighborhood dotted with celebrity condos and boutiques. Steeped in 1960s counterculture, the Village was once a hub for artists, musicians, writers, and creatives, including Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, Annie Leibovitz, and Joan Baez. Walking tours often highlight historic landmarks and these iconic figures’ former haunts, which visitors often miss if exploring on their own.
