The Met Breuer
A top arts destination since 2016, the Met Breuer is a welcomed expansion of the world-renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art. Sightseeing tours and private shopping tours typically pass the Breuer—because of its Madison Avenue location—but to see the galleries, travelers typically visit independently. Avoid the lines by purchasing advance tickets, and get access to the Met Breuer, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Met Cloisters. Best of all, tickets are valid for three consecutive days.
Things to Know Before You Go
Modern and contemporary art and design enthusiasts shouldn't miss the Met Breuer.
Architecture fans appreciate the historic building, designed by famed Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer.
Don't bring your luggage—oversize bags can't be stored at the coat check.
For a great value, pick up a New York City discount pass, and get free entry to the Met Breuer and numerous cultural institutions around the city.
How to Get There
Whether you buy tickets in advance or when you arrive, the best way to reach the museum is via public transit. To take the subway, hop on the 6 train to 77th Street, or the Q or R train to 72nd Street. The bus is also an option. Take the M1, M2, M3, or M4 bus uptown on Madison Avenue, or downtown on Fifth Avenue.
When to Get There
The Met Breuer is open Tuesday to Thursday from morning until early evening, with extended evening hours on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the museum is open from morning until late afternoon. The museum is closed on major holidays. Though weekday visits are your best bet to avoid crowds, weekends before lunch are also a great way to explore the galleries without the hustle and bustle.
Visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Because your Breuer tickets are also valid at the Met Fifth Avenue, get more bang for your buck with a quick jaunt to nearby Metropolitan Museum of Art. A 10-minute walk from the Breuer, you find an encyclopedic museum featuring 5,000 years of art and artifacts. Don't miss the Egyptian Temple of Dendur and the Met's robust collection of arms and armor.
