The Basics

Founded 70-odd years after Dutch settlers first arrived in what is now New York City, Trinity Church is one of the nation’s earliest places of worship. Granted a charter by King William III, the first church building debuted in 1698. Destroyed in the Great New York Fire of 1776, it was soon rebuilt before being reconstructed again in 1846. The version that stands today was designed by architect Richard Upjohn and is renowned for its grand, Gothic Revival spire (which, for a time, made it the tallest building in the United States).

Trinity Church features on numerous New York City tours, including bus tours, walking tours, and driving tours. It’s also visited on Hamilton-themed excursions and 9/11 memorial tours.

Our First Trip to NYC
There were only 5 visitors on our tour which allowed a great deal of attention from Ray, our guide. All of us arrived within minutes of the appointed time, and dressed warmly for outdoors. Ray was extremely knowledgeable of the history of NY, and presented it in such a manner to keep us laughing at times while telling the story of a building, man, or a name on the sidewalk. Ray would make a super history teacher. 9/11 was the most touching part of the tour. I would highly recommend this tour.

Very informative. Jared- our guide was a wealth of information and was very friendly. He was also very concerned about our safety- he successfully fended off an aggravated homeless person who became verbally aggressive- with words only. I highly recommend this tour.

I got background on the US financial system, but would have liked more on how the stock market itself works. Our guide had lots of information, but I could have done without some of the wisecracks.
