Fifth Avenue History Walk and Live Jazz

Fifth Avenue History Walk and Live Jazz

star-5
5
The best that New York has to offer - amazing history, dizzying landmarks and sounds of jazz! Join me for a walk along Fifth Ave - the name associated with wealth, glitz, and glamor. Fifth Ave is one of the best-known streets in the world, especially the stretch known as Millionaire Row. Once upon a time, it was lined with the finest homes of New York's wealthiest people - a place of ambition, intrigue, scandal, and the most spectacular balls ever given. This tour is not just about the landmarks, it's about the history of New York during the Gilded Age and about the people like the Vanderbilts, the Astors, the Rockefellers, who shaped it into the metropolis. It's about millionaires and architects, visionaries and beautiful models, artists and writers whose names are forever connected to the 5th Avenue. The tour will end at a place where the sounds of jazz rule the night ( food and drinks are available and highly advisable!)

History, Architecture and Live Jazz Tour: Flatiron/Gramercy

History, Architecture and Live Jazz Tour: Flatiron/Gramercy

Discover New York that tourists don't usually get to see. The tour starts in one of the oldest bars in New York famed by its literary history. A Prohibition-era speakeasy, it stayed open despite the law and survived in its original form. We'll take a walk along the path not usually visited by tourists where we'll see a private park and facades of private clubs. We'll get to a vantage point from which we'll be able to see some of New York's most fascinating buildings. I’ll share some of my favorite New York tales filled with daring, ambition, movie characters, love, murder, Prohibition, and ladies' skirts. We'll finish our journey in one of the city's most elegant Prohibition-style parlor where exquisite whiskey cocktail and sounds of jazz will make you feel like a Great Gatsby.

Walking Tour of 1970's Music Venues of the East Village

star-5

Travel back to the 1970s, to an East Village when apartments were cheap, music was great, and you had to show up in person to buy tickets! We’ll visit the sites of the legendary Fillmore East, the long gone CBGB’s, and The Bottom Line, places that launched the careers of some of the biggest names in music. We’ll also walk to some lesser known, but equally significant, sites where artists honed their craft and first gained a following, places like Club 82, On the Rocks, and Great Gildersleeves. Were you at The Bottom Line in 1975 when Bruce Springsteen first blew the socks off the music world with Born to Run? Or did you see Patti Smith at CBGB’s in 1976 after the release of Horses? What a SHOW! We’ll also revisit some of the legendary shows of The Who and Pink Floyd at the Fillmore East, as well as the New York Dolls at the Mercer Arts Center. Along the way we’ll dip our toe into the world of Disco at the site of Infinity, a dance club destroyed by fire in 1979.
