How to Spend 2 Days in Victoria
Make the most of two days in Victoria by strolling the waterfront, wandering Butchart Gardens, sipping Vancouver Island wine, and taking a whale-watching adventure.
Emily Carr’s onetime home in Victoria tells the artist’s story through a series of exhibits on her life. Along with the permanent displays, the Emily Carr House also hosts literary readings, social justice fora, and other events throughout the season. The house is an included stop on some tours of the city, including car, pedicab, bicycle, and walking tours ranging from one hour to half a day. Themed excursions featuring the Emily Carr House include history tours, garden tours, or general city tours.
The Emily Carr House is located at 207 Government Street, south of the historic waterfront. The closest bus stop is on nearby Menzies Street, near the intersection at Simcoe Street, with service from bus lines #2 and #10. Some hop-on hop-off bus tours of Victoria have stops within walking distance.
From May through September the Emily Carr House is open Tuesday through Saturday. In spring, new flowers turn the garden bright with blooms that last through the summer.
After visiting Carr’s house, see the artist’s vivid work in the city she loved. Oil paintings, watercolors, and charcoal sketches are on display at the Royal BC Museum in the Old Town. In the Rockland neigborhood, find several more at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, whose holdings include the moving oil painting Odds and Ends.
