Our horses are friendly and sure-footed and suitable for everyone, beginners and experts alike. Riding the Icelandic horse in its natural environment is something everyone should try at least once in the lifetime. Our tours depart from the stables in Vík and take us along the beautiful black sand beach. In the summer time, puffins may be flying high above us and the view of the Reynisdrangar sea stacks always draws the eye. Our tours are easygoing and aim to let you discover the area and our horses at a calm pace, perfectly suited for beginners. If you are up for trying out the unique gait of the Icelandic horse, tölt, you will get a chance to try that as well! Please note we have a weight limit of 110kg / 242lb, and riders must be aged 10+
Iceland is famous for its Icelandic horses, a native breed that have a unique gait known as a ‘tölt’. On this tour, experience riding an Icelandic horse and admire the wild landscapes of south Iceland from horseback. Suitable for all levels, including complete beginners, you will have time to learn the basics before heading out and get chance to experience the ‘tölt’.
If you would like to experience the Icelandic horse both in terms of riding and information, but doesn’t feel like going on an outdoor ride, this is the option for you. It’s a perfect pick on a bad-weather day, for families with smaller kids but also for anyone who might just prefer an indoor arena experience. You will receive both cultural, historical and characteristic information on the Icelandic horse as well as enjoy the change to interact with them in the stable. Furthermore, the ride in the arena will give you a chance to really make use of your instructor and gain new riding skills while having fun. Since we specialize in small groups, there will be plenty of space for all riders in our big arena and if someone might prefer to watch, there is space on the tribune. Finish off the tour in our cafeteria with a hot drink. We are located 1 hour drive south of Reykjavik. Age limit: 10 years Weight limit: 110 kg/242 lbs
