After pickup from your Seoul hotel, travel about one hour north to reach the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a 2.5-mile (4km) wide piece of land that divides North and South Korea.

Stop first in Imjingak, a park with war artifacts and artillery from the Korean conflict. Continue to the Freedom Bridge, where nearly 13,000 Korean POWs were exchanged at the end of the war.

Next up, see the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, believed to have been built by North Korea for a military invasion. Discovered in 1978, the tunnel was blocked by the South Koreans at the border’s military demarcation line. Afterward, check out artifacts and photographs from the Korean War at the DMZ Museum.

Continue by coach to the Dora Observatory, where you can use provided binoculars to scope out North Korea. Observe a North Korean model village called Kijongdong as your guide explains the backstory of this surreal border region.

Your final destination is Dorasan Station, a train station that once connected North and South Korea and today carries symbolic significance, which your guide details as you take in the site. Wrap up your visit to the DMZ by passing the Unification Village, a small farming community that models the daily life of a typical South Korean farm community.

If you choose the half-day tour only, you are dropped off at City Hall in Seoul after a brief stop at a ginseng center en route. If you choose the morning half-day tour with lunch upgrade, your guide takes you to lunch at a restaurant in Seoul after visiting the DMZ. The full-day tour visits the DMZ in the morning, returns to Seoul for lunch, then hits Insadong Antique Street—which contains a magnificent variety of boutiques, antique stores, tea houses, and art galleries—before a return to your hotel in the afternoon.

Amazing Tour Guide, Unhappy Transportation Experience
MJH
, Nov. 2020
The tour guide was absolutely amazing! She was very knowledgeable and helped us navigate everything with no problems. My only problem was with the driver. The car was filled with only my group and we asked to be dropped off back at our hotel since it was just us and the same distance as city hall would be from the DMZ and he refused because he said his son was visiting. He also did not drop us off near the subway terminal and it was pouring rain outside. We had no umbrellas... so needless to say our great trip ended on an unhappy note because of him. But, we would love to go again if we had our same tour guide!

Hi, We really appreciate your review. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the tour! And sorry for transportation. As you know, the tour finish at the City hall all. Since the driver already had the schedule in advance on your tour day, we couldn't take you back to your hotel. FYI, from City Hall to your hotel is not close distance. And from the DMZ to your hotel, it's still further than the city hall. And the reason why we couldn't park exactly in front of the subway station is because of traffic. But, if you are not happy with that, we are sorry about that. We will make a better service in the future! Hopefully, we will see you in the future again! Take care of your health :) Thanks!

We had a great day on the alternative tour as the DMZ was closed due to swine fever. The tour company was very responsive over email and very helpful in the lead up to the tour. Hotel pick up is very convenient and our guide was knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. Thanks Jennie and Han for the great experience! Highly recommend.

Although the fever outbreak kept us from visiting the DMZ, we still enjoyed our time with our tour guide Katie in visiting many of the other notable sites near the DMZ. Regardless of the bad weather, it was still special. Thanks!

Trips to DMZ have officially been cancelled by the Korean govt for some African Swine Flu scare. So when you book this, they instead put you on an alternate tour that does not take you to Dorasan station or the 3rd tunnel, but instead to the war museum in Seoul. And although this ban has been in place for a while now (and is going to last for at least 3 months more), the tour company has not updated it on this website. Because otherwise, the trip may not be worth it for most people (including us). Having said that, the trip to Odu observatory and Imjingak park was pretty good. Also, they dropped us to a ginseng 'exhibition' (read: MARKET) for around an hour, while a bunch of people were just trying to sell the tourists ginseng because it cures every human illness. So before you book this lucrative deal, I would suggest calling the company first to confirm if you would be able to visit any of the sites they mention in their package.

Great Alternate Tour!

Even though the DMZ was closed due to swine flu, the alternate tour was still very well done. We got to see North Korea from the Odusan Observatory, see the freedom bridge and bunker, and explore the Korean War museum of Seoul. Our tour guide Katie was incredibly knowledgeable and was able to give us a good picture of the history between the two Koreas and their relationship today. Definitely worth it!

If the DMZ is "closed", don't bother

The night before the planned and booked tour I was called to be informed that the DMZ was closed and that an alternative tour would be offered. Since my only purpose for traveling to Korea was to make this DMZ tour, I had to accept the "alternative". The personal pick up at my hotel was prompt but the alternative tour was a disappointment, A lot of time sitting on a cramped bus, 40 minutes to stand at an Observation tower to try to focus binoculars on a few strategically-placed white buildings on a distant shore, more bus ride to the "Peace Park" where we got to spend 50 minutes to look at relics of the bridge of no return and some bits of old railway tracks and equipment. More bus ride back to the city to visit the War Memorial Museum. That was the most useful part of the tour to fulfill my hope of learning about the division of the peninsula and the ensuing war. The time there was well spent. A simple local lunch finished off the tour after which we were left to fend for ourselves. Dora Kim tried hard to keep us informed and entertained, it was not her fault that someone sneezed and caused the DMZ to be closed.

Thank you for your review. This is Jennie from Seoul City Tour. We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied our tour service. Because of African Swine Fever, the DMZ tour has been cancelled officially by government. So, we suggested you to join the alternative DMZ Tour. And we will take all your advice and will provide better tour service in the future ! ** The original DMZ tour will be available soon. So, we really hope, you will visit to Korea again next year and take our original DMZ Tour! (I'm 100% sure you will satisfy our original DMZ tour ! ) Thank you
