Nestled in the rocky wilderness of Nitmiluk National Park, Katherine Gorge is one of the Northern Territory’s natural treasures. After early morning pickup at your Darwin hotel, travel via comfortable coach approximately 3 hours inland while your knowledgeable guide shares commentary on the passing landscape. Stop to stretch your legs and pay tribute to fallen World War II soldiers at the Adelaide River War Cemetery.

Once inside the park, take a refreshing swim in the natural rock pool at the base of Edith Falls (weather conditions permitting). Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the serene and picturesque surroundings.

In the afternoon, embark on a 2-hour cruise down the river that winds between the sheer sandstone cliffs of Katherine Gorge. Learn about the area’s geologic history from your guide, and catch a glimpse of ancient Aboriginal rock art on the gorge walls. Keep an eye out for native wildlife including turtles, colorful birds and even crocodiles sunning on the riverbanks!

Hop back on the coach for a brief tour of the township of Katherine, heart of the Northern Territory’s cattle and agricultural industries. On the return drive to Darwin, pass through the historic gold mining town of Pine Creek and stop in Adelaide Creek for dinner at a local restaurant (own expense). Your full-day tour concludes with drop-off at your Darwin hotel in the evening.

AAT trip to Katherine was a brilliant day. Glad I didn’t drip myself. Our Guide Mark just a great fellow. Precessional and fun. Katherine Gorge is truely spiritual, like nothing else. Edith Falls could of spent the day there swimming and relaxing. Everything in between eye opening. Thank you

Was a very rushed day, only about , half an hour in Edith falls, we were constantly told we had to be on time or we would miss our boat cruise at 2 o’clock. The driver was half an hour late to collect us himself, probably due to the fact that at least 3 pick up points had the same time. The trip on the boat was great and the tour guide terrific- possible a trip you should consider doing over two days to make it more enjoyable and less stressful

The gorges were stunning the guide had great knowlege and was very informative Edith falls was good but unfortunatly a bit cold and we did not have much time there. However the bus trip was long and did not stand up to our expectations there were too many stops and at the back of the bus a lot of us could not hear or understand the driver due to road noise and other problems some of the other passengers were late getting back on the bus at stops causing a lot of waiting time

Very long day, home at 9pm but was worth it.! Our driver ‘Love’ was his first day, and did a great job, he was happy and very helpful. Lunch wasn’t excellent, and heaps of food. Katherine Gorge was beautiful! My only complaint, was after lunch (50 mins?) and the gorge (2 hours) we stopped again for a break. We all just wanted to get home. Not sure if this had to be applied after so many hours. But we seemed to have just got back on the bus and another stop. 😁

Hello Brett_O, Thanks for your review, and it sounds like you had a fantastic time exploring Katherine and the Gorges are incredible. Thanks very much for your feedback in regards to the stops, and we do try to balance out the stops as much as we can and we use them as a comfort break for our guests as we are covering a lot of distance on the way back to Darwin. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in the Top End. Thanks, The Team at AAT Kings
