Returns to original departure point
Your day trip begins as you depart Hobart by bus for the drive to the Tasman Peninsula. Stop by a local cafe for morning tea, and then embark on your 3-hour wilderness cruise along the coastline of Tasman National Park, from Eaglehawk Neck all the way around to Port Arthur.

While you’re on the water, stare up at some of the southern hemisphere’s tallest vertical sea cliffs, spot sea caves and watch for peregrine falcons nesting on the rugged coastline. From the boat’s open-air tiered seating, everyone can enjoy good views, increasing your chances of catching sight of marine life like seals, dolphins, seabirds and maybe even whales. You’ll also hear about Tasman Peninsula’s history, native wildlife and natural environment from the onboard interpretive guide.

Returning to land, enjoy an included lunch before your tour continues to Port Arthur Historic Site, part of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Australian Convict Sites. You have three hours at this former penal settlement to dive into Australia’s convict history. Explore the many old structures and ruins that dot the landscaped grounds, from the penitentiary building and guard tower to a church.

Your day trip concludes with the return drive to Hobart.

Outstanding Experience.

Pennicott Wilderness Journeys gave us red carpet service all day. Our driver Mani provided exceptional service - NOTHING was too much trouble and his knowledge was attentiveness was way beyond expectations. The day was seamless and thoroughly enjoyable. There was an included cuppa & muffin for morning tea. The cruise was an unforgettable adventure: the coastline is stunning, rugged and utterly majestic. We had dolphins racing alongside our boat, saw seals, albatross, mutton birds, gulls, sooty oystercatcher and more. Our boat captain went out of his way to ensure a safe & comfortable ride and gave both sides of the boat equal opportunity for photos of the spectacular rock formations along shoreline & stopped for us to see some of the highlights and to watch the dolphins frolicking. The hostess checked constantly that we were safe & okay and offered a good commentary and readily answered questions. She was always smiling and enjoying the sights as much as we were. From there we visited the Port Arthur former penitentiary site, where we were provided with an excellent included lunch. The service was very friendly and prompt. We did the included tour by an expert guide and explored at leisure for a couple of hours more. All in all there the itinerary was outstanding & there was nothing more that could have done to provide a more wonderful experience. Can't recommend this tour highly enough. Many thanks to the team!

Excellent Activity to try while in Hobart
Alison_S

The entire trip was wonderful. Excellent staff, easy to checkin. The bus driver Tim was excellent and knowledgeable. We stopped at Port Arthur Lavender Farm for morning tea which was a range of lavender flavoured products. Next off to the boat cruise which was excellent value for money, a wonderful experience and excellent Crew in Mitch and Chris. They made the trip fun, interesting and the time just flew. We saw some amazing scenery and wildlife in the form of seals. Then back to Port Arthur Historical Site for lunch, which was more then expected. Admission to the site was included as well as a tour of the site. Then enough time to wander around on your own to investigate the site. Catching the bus back to Hobart, we had left at 7:45 am and returned at approx 6:00pm and had spent a very active day. Highly recommend this trip and the staff if you are wanting an informative and active trip whilst in Hobart.

Wrap up warm and take a sickness pill. Now you're ready for a fun boat trip. Port Arthur visit was a bit short. Very little time left after the guided tour. Nevertheless a great day out. Just hope for good weather.

Worth it

Definitly worth it. The cruise is long and is a true adventure (dont forget to put warm clothes even if hot weather and please note you will be a bit wet by the ocean waves, whatever your place on the boat. if you are on the three first raws, you will have the foot in the water, plan shoes procteded for water). The port arthur is nice to visit too, i found the time we got, enough to visit. Perfect day, perfect timing. We just regret no dolphins, but seals are here.

This was a fun, interesting, and informative tour. The lavender farm was interesting. The boat cruise featured spectacular cliff views, and many seals on the rocks. And I learned a lot about the history of Port Arthur.

Most Amazing!

This trip combines Tasman Wilderness cruise with historic Port Arthur visit and in my view is the best of the day trips from Hobart! We had magical experience in the 750 hp boat and saw the Dolphins swim, the fur seals jump and hump back wales spout! The pilots navigation into thin water inlets so close to the magically carved rocks from million of years of erosion was awesome!
