It’s About the People

Oh my! This was one of THE BEST tours we have been on. Jeff, our guide, led us in meaningful discourse about the lives and experiences of enslaved people. We left with an added appreciation for the experiences of this group of people. So many tours are about “furniture”; this was about people! Loved it. Highly recommend!

Very disappointed with 2:30 pm tour on 04/29/2022.

We were on the 2:30 pm tour on 04/29/2022. Tour guide was all business and conducted the tour as if she was practicing to teach in the future. Her presentation was very dry. Very disappointed in this tour. At least wine tasting was good.

When we got to the desk we were given the option of changing to the Mansion tour, which we took. It was excellent. The tour guide was knowledgeable and answered all questions. The wine tasting was a extra added bonus at the end.

A more accurate view

The tour guides were so good at asking us to put ourselves in the place of the slaves and how they would have felt. It was so eye opening and informative. I am very glad that we, as Americans, are finally trying to tell the story of the experiences of everyone on these plantations.

The gift shop is wonderful. The indoor tour we took was definitely not worth it may be the outdoor one is a better Value for your time

Journey to Jubilee challenge

Our guide not only provided excellent historical perspective, he posed challenging questions to get us thinking about the moral, political, and economic factors and implications of the shift from slavery to emancipated service for the African Americans who toiled at Cheekwood.

LOVELY GROUNDS

I loved the history of this place. They raised thorough bred horses. Interesting. They have a restaurant where we waited for our tour. It was empty because we were early. We sat and took in the aroma of the great barbeque feast that was there before us. Our tour was very informative. We had ice cream afterwards and sat in a nice rocking chair, in the shade, and enjoyed the relaxation and Southern charm of the other people on site. I was fascinated by the magnolia trees. The roots were enormous and the trees were 4-5 stories high. They had large buds on them and they bloom at Christmas time. Where we live they bloom in the Spring. All in all we enjoyed our trip to Belle Meade and would recommend anyone to add that to their trip to Nashville or even if just passing through.
