Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Choose a morning or afternoon tour and meet your airboat at the embarkation point in the town of Lafitte, an historic fishing village named for notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer Jean Lafitte, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from New Orleans. Prearranged coach pickup is also available from your downtown New Orleans or French Quarter hotel.

Upon arriving at the airboat launch site, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers. Hold on tight as you airboat takes off into the tidewater cypress swamp near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Enjoy close proximity to the water from your seat in the flat‐bottomed airboat. As you zip through the bayou, check out signature cypress trees dripping with moss and massive tupelo‐gum tree rising straight from the water.

Depending on the season, you may spot alligators basking in sun on the shore or lurking in the water. Rest assured that the swamps are teeming with wildlife year‐round. Spot turtles, snakes, raccoons, nutria and many native birds –  you may even spot a bald eagle!

Your airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Before leaving this iconic Cajun town, pop into the local albino alligator exhibit or grab a delectable shrimp Po' boy to go (own expense). Then drive or board your coach back to New Orleans. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick‐up or drop‐off unless hotel pickup and drop‐off is selected at checkout. If you have selected hotel pickup and drop‐off please specify your hotel details at the time of checkout or advise the local operator directly after booking.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Mississippi River
Drive-out along the Mississippi River approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.
Stop At:
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording amazing photo opportunities. Keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators, including an albino alligator. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless option selected at checkout.

A fun way to explore the buyou and alligators.

Although a recent hurricane had some areas of the bayou impassable, there were still many areas for our airboat driver to explore. His knowledge was great, as was his humor and friendliness. Our time on the waterways was nearly one and a half hours. There were lots of alligators to be seen, and our driver had some of them coming right along side of the boat as he fed them marshmallows on a stick. Herons, egrets, hawks and some bald eagles were frequently seen. I recommend the small boat option which will hold between 6 and 10 people. This makes it much easier then the larger capacity boats to get pictures and videos.

Way better than expected! Unfortunately I took 3 different tour events in one weekend missed our tour guide's name but he truly made the experience! What stood out the most was his "relationship" with a young wild alligator that actually responded to his voice. Also, his personalized tour narration was A++

Great tour in a great place

This is a must! There’s an option to include pick up and drop off which made this very accessible, and the price is very reasonable. The guide was very funny and knowledgeable about the bayou, and we saw many gators, turtles, and birds.

They took a pre-trip photo for us to purchase which we did , it was a fun photo for a keepsake. Our guide was fun, telling us of his own experiences growing up in the area. We saw gators, cranes, and deer We even found a kayak probably displaced by the hurricane!

Great experience but make sure you know when you’re getting picked up

This experience was amazing! I almost missed the whole experience though because I never received instruction as to when the driver would pick us up so the driver almost left because we weren’t outside. In departure details under included in the confirmation email it only states the time of the actual tour, so I assumed that was when we would get picked up.
