Departure Point

43X5+7C9, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland

We meet up at Ingolfstorg Square in the center of Reykjavik by the two stone high seat pillars (Over 2 meters high), The square is at the beginning of Austurstræti (Austurstræti 1) and is squared off by the streets Aðalstræti, Hafnarstræti, Veltusund, and Vallarstræti. If you walk down Laugavegur (The main shopping street) please just continue all the way down until you come to the square always walking straight down until you can't continue further. On the Ingolfur square itself, you can see Kvosin a small grocery market and finally Center Hotel Plaza. We recommend for people to use Google Maps or something similiar because the Icelandic street names can be tricky :).

The guide was really good with lots of history. The food was minimal and not great. We had a small serving of a hearty fish stew at the first restaurant. The 2nd restaurant was a lamb soup that was so so, however the bread was good. We then went to the famous hot dog stand for about a $5.00 hot dog, no drink there, not even water. The last stop was a lobster soup. There were some chunks of lobster but it wasn’t flavorful and was very thin. For what we paid I was expecting more substantial food. I wouldn’t recommend

Tasting unusual food like fermented shark and dried salty fish. Ugh. Not for me. But it was an enjoyable tour. The guide was very knowledgeable and super friendly.

This was a great way to walk around town and try some of the more traditional foods. Make sure to start on an empty stomach. So much food.

Esther is great. Lots of stories and local history. All of the places are very good as well. Many local items expected and unexpected. Quite a bit to eat. It’s a hybrid of food and a walking tour of central Reykjavik.

Best Food Tour Ever!! Much More Than Just Tasting Food!!

Such an incredible experience. We took this tour the day we landed in Iceland so that we could get our bearings and stay awake for the day. We had no idea how much valuable information we would gain on our first day!! Our tour guide Bjorn was simply amazing. He was a native Icelander and shared so much besides the food. Besides tasting wonderful food I can't emphasize enough how helpful this tour was just for the knowledge it gave us for the rest of our stay in Iceland. If I could give it and our guide Bjorn 10 stars I would!!

We met our friendly guide in the square in the middle of town and walked around to various restaurants and the famous hot dog stand, trying different traditional and unique dishes, including whale meat! The guide told us about the customs and history of the different foods, and we got to get to know the other tourists on the tour since we were sitting down for the meals, which was fun. This isn't a history-based tour, but the guide was a native Icelander and could answer any questions about the city or country. It was a great tour to take on our first day in the city as an orientation to the city and food of Iceland.

A terrific tour of Icelandic cuisine and culture. We stopped by several restaurants and had more than enough food, each dish better than the last. Our guide was friendly, funny, informative, and incredibly helpful. He not only gave us a fun and insightful tour, but gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip. I would recommend this tour to anybody visiting Reykjavik!

Good overview of culinary around main capital city

This is a great way to expose yourself to the culinary stops around Reykjavik with a little lesson on Icelandic food. I will say that a lot of this is a bit of a fusion since you’re in the capital area but you get the base culturally for the food. If you wanted a true food experience from scratch to that a little distant from the city. Otherwise this is a good overview of the cuisine, the main city restaurants and a grocery stop. I’d give it a 4 but giving it a 5 since our guide was amazing!
